Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has warned South Korea of ??"terrible disaster" if it sends drones into North Korea again.

On Saturday, North Korea claimed that Seoul had sent remote-controlled drones carrying anti-North Korean pamphlets to Pyongyang three times in the past week.

Authorities in Seoul have said they cannot confirm whether North Korea's claims are true.

"The moment a [Republic of Korea] drone is detected in the sky of our capital again, it will lead to a terrible catastrophe," Kim Yo Jong said, according to state media.

"Personally, I pray that something like this does not happen."

Tensions have risen on the Korean Peninsula as Pyongyang has significantly increased the number of missile tests in the past two years, toughening its rhetoric against the United States and South Korea.

Meanwhile, the North Koreans have increased military cooperation with Russia.

Last week, North Korean officials said they would close all road and rail links with South Korea, and that they would fortify their borders.

According to Seoul's military, Pyongyang has placed thousands of landmines in the border area in recent months.

In late 2023, Kim Jong Un described inter-Korean relations as between two warring countries.
