At least 52 people have died in New Delhi, India, due to a severe heat wave, the "Times of India" reported.

According to an Indian newspaper, at least 52 bodies were taken to hospitals in the past two days, mostly poor people who lived and worked abroad.

India has recorded more than 40,000 cases of heatstroke this summer and at least 110 confirmed deaths from March 1 to June 18.

The Ministry of Health ordered federal and state institutions to provide care to patients, while hospitals were ordered to free up more beds.

The weather service has predicted above-average temperatures for this month as well, with weather service data showing that Delhi had its hottest night in more than 50 years on Wednesday, with a minimum temperature of 35.2 degrees. /CNA
