The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met on Wednesday with Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the former President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.

Vucic wrote on his Instagram profile that it was an "inspiring exchange of ideas" and that he showed Kushner around Belgrade and "explained some of the plans for its even faster growth."

He added that Kushner presented him with a project for a "magnificent hotel in Belgrade, which will contribute to our capital becoming the center of this part of the world, which will be positioned on the global map as an inevitable destination and headquarters of desirable for corporations, universities and the largest international institutions, but also an inspiration for artists, scientists and, above all, for young people from all over the world".

On May 15, Serbia signed an agreement for the revitalization of the complex of the former Federal Secretariat for National Defense with the company "Affinity Global Development", which is led by Jared Kushner.

Thus, Serbia has leased this land for 99 years. Kushner's company plans to build a business-residential complex on the site of the former General Staff in Belgrade.

The New York Times reported on March 18 that the investment is worth $500 million and that, according to the proposed contract, the Serbian state should receive 22 percent of the profit.

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure in the Government of Serbia, Goran Veši?, said in May that the investor has an obligation to build a memorial complex dedicated to all the victims of the NATO bombings on the same plot.

The General Staff building was bombed on the night between April 29 and 30 and on May 7 and 8, 1999.

NATO began bombing the former Yugoslavia on March 24 of that year in response to the persecution of Albanians in Kosovo by Serbian security forces./REL
