Security priorities meeting/ Rubio travels to Brussels tomorrow

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Brussels, Belgium, from April 2 to 4. In Brussels, Secretary Rubio will participate in the NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting to discuss security priorities for the Alliance, including increasing allied defense investments and ensuring lasting peace in Ukraine.

Secretary Rubio will also discuss China's shared threat to the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific Alliances at a NATO session with representatives of the Indo-Pacific Partners. Rubio will also discuss plans for the Hague Summit to be held this summer.

"In Brussels, Secretary Rubio will participate in the NATO Foreign Ministers' Meeting to discuss security priorities for the Alliance, including increasing allied defense investments and ensuring lasting peace in Ukraine," State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement.

Rubio's visit comes during an unprecedented time for the alliance, as US President Donald Trump has publicly questioned the principle of collective defense and said he would annex Greenland from NATO member Denmark.

The Trump administration has also brought about a major shift in Washington's policy toward Ukraine. Vowing to broker a quick peace deal, the U.S. has heavily armed Kiev, temporarily cutting off military aid and exerting little pressure on Moscow, except for tariffs on Russian oil. /CNA
