Explosion in France/ 6 dead and several injured

At least six people have died in an explosion inside a building in Trévoux, France, on Monday.

Residents were evacuated immediately after the exterior of the building collapsed following the explosion, which is suspected to be the result of a gas boiler malfunction, French daily newspaper Le Progrès reports.

The explosion in the four-story apartment complex occurred at around 5:30 p.m. local time, La Voix de L'Ain reports.

Among the dead were two children, aged 3 and 5, and at least four others were injured and are receiving medical attention at the scene in Trévoux, a town about 39 miles south of Lyon.

The explosion could reportedly be heard for miles, while flying debris traveled to at least two nearby schools and shattered several windows.

"50 firefighters and 36 vehicles, as well as medical personnel, have been mobilized to help the victims," ??local authorities said.

People are reported to be buried under the rubble, while several emergency service vehicles are rushing to the scene, including a crisis unit.
