USA: Russia is using North Korean missiles in Ukraine

Russia is using North Korean ballistic missiles in Ukraine, a new Pentagon report said. The report is based on analysis of missile fragments and, according to the United States, confirms widespread claims that Pyongyang is sending weapons to Moscow.

The Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency report analyzed images to confirm that missile fragments found in January of this year in Ukraine's Kharkiv region were from a North Korean-made short-range ballistic missile.

"The analysis confirms that Russia has used ballistic missiles manufactured in North Korea in its war against Ukraine," the agency said in a statement.

South Korea has accused Pyongyang of sending thousands of containers of ammunition to Russia. Such shipments would constitute violations by both countries of sanctions imposed by the United Nations.

Pyongyang and Moscow have strengthened their ties in recent months.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Russia last year and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Kremlin told Russian media earlier this month that Putin's visit to North Korea is "being prepared."

The last time Putin visited Pyongyang was in 2000, just a few months after he was elected president of Russia. In fact, he had met Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un's father.

Under UN sanctions, North Korea is not allowed to conduct tests of ballistic technology.
