Ahmeti: We will protect the legitimacy of the Albanian vote
Ali Ahmeti

The chairman of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), Ali Ahmeti, said on Wednesday in Tetovo that the European Front is the legitimate representative of the Albanians of North Macedonia and not the VLEN coalition, which is now part of the new parliamentary majority and is expected to be part of The new government.

Ahmeti said that DUI and the European Front are legitimate representatives of the Albanians of North Macedonia, therefore he warned of "activities for the protection of the Albanian vote".

In the presentation to the media together with the leaders of the European Front, which consists of several Albanian parties and four parties of other ethnicities, Ahmeti said that any attempt to "violate the will of the Albanians and other communities will be strongly opposed by the European Front" .

Based on the results of the SEC, in the parliamentary elections on May 8, the European Front won 18 deputies' mandates, while the VLEN coalition won 14.

"Your vote must not go to waste and we are here with you to wait for your victory and implement your will as winners", said Ahmeti without clarifying what measures will be taken in defense of what he calls "legitimacy of Albanians".

But the leaders of the VLEN coalition also claim that they are legitimate representatives as they say that it won "pure Albanian votes" against the European Front, which also received votes from other ethnic communities in the elections.

The head of DUI, Ali Ahmeti, said that the public will be notified in time with the measures that will be taken, stressing that all "mechanisms" will be used to protect the "victory" in the May 8 elections.

Asked if the abandonment of the work of the Assembly on Tuesday, in which Afrim Gashi from the coalition VLEN and VMRO DPMNE was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly, Ahmeti said that "he felt insulted to stay in such a session.

"It is not about a boycott. We will use all the democratic mechanisms to protect the acquired legitimacy. We participated in the Assembly in the verification of the mandates, but we left the hall because they felt insulted as the legitimacy of all those who voted on May 8 was being violated", said Ahmeti.

He accused the leaders of the VLEN coalition of violating an agreement that, according to Ahmet, was reached between the Albanian parties at the end of last year that no Albanian party will be part of the new Government without obtaining guarantees for the approval of constitutional changes and the continuation of European integration".

The head of DUI, Ahmeti, said that the responsibility for all further developments in North Macedonia falls on the representative for the formation of the new Government, Hristijan Mickovski.

He accused VMRO DPMNE of leading anti-Albanian politics with "Nazi" statements, as well as politics against the European Union, NATO, the USA, as well as against international agreements.

"We are in defense of legitimacy and we do not retreat at all. We don't bat an eyelash, because we are in our right", said Ahmeti./ Rel
