The EU is monitoring Meta's measures to combat election disinformation

The European Commission has said on Tuesday that the company "Meta" has taken measures to combat the spread of disinformation on its platforms, before the European Union elections.

"Meta has activated new functions... 27 panels, one for each state, to allow third-party civic discourse and to observe elections," said a spokesman for the Commission.

Last month, the European Commission launched an investigation into alleged breaches of EU rules by Meta, saying Facebook and Instagram had failed to combat disinformation. and deceptive advertising.

The European Commission has said that it will monitor the new functions of the company, while the formal procedures against "Meta" will continue to be implemented.

The elections for the European Parliament will be held on June 6-9 this year.
