Russia does not want to extend the Easter ceasefire

Russia does not want to extend the ceasefire in Ukraine beyond Easter Sunday. The Kremlin said it would not meet Ukraine's demand for a 30-day ceasefire. President Vladimir Putin has not given the order to extend the ceasefire he declared for Easter, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the state news agency Tass.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has once again proposed to Russia to suspend drone and missile attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine for at least 30 days. "If Russia does not agree to such a step, this proves that it only wants to continue those things that destroy human lives and prolong the war," Zelensky wrote on the X platform.

Mutual accusations
Despite the 30-hour ceasefire for Easter, which Russian President Putin announced, Ukraine and Russia accused each other of continuous attacks during Sunday.

"We know very well how Moscow manipulates and we are prepared for anything," said President Zelensky. "We will respond to any Russian attack in an appropriate manner," said Zelensky, who said Moscow's words could not be trusted. However, the Ukrainian president admitted: "In some areas the situation has calmed down."

Russia, on the other hand, accused the Ukrainian armed forces of violating the ceasefire and continuing attacks, including in the Donetsk region. Over the course of Sunday night, there had been dozens of drone strikes from the Ukrainian side, the Russian Defense Ministry said. "As a result, there have been deaths and injuries among the civilian population and damage to civilian buildings," the ministry said in a statement.
