Strong sales growth/ Tesla records 25% jump in second quarter

Electric car company Tesla has posted an impressive performance in the second quarter of 2026, recording a 25% increase in global sales.

During the April-June period, the company delivered over 480,000 vehicles to customers, compared to around 384,000 in the same period in 2025. This success marks a positive turn for the electric vehicle giant, after two difficult years with declining sales.

According to analysts, Europe has been the main engine of this recovery. After a weak year, Tesla's sales in the European market have shown clear signs of "returning to the game."

Factors that contributed to this change include high fuel prices, government incentives for purchasing electric cars, and a fading of negative consumer reaction to Elon Musk's political stances, which had significantly affected sales last year.

However, Tesla faces major challenges, mainly from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. BYD, which last year overtook Tesla as the world's largest electric car manufacturer, is growing aggressively in Europe, with sales up 159% in the first five months of the year.

In an effort to maintain its edge and diversify its business, Tesla is increasingly focusing on autonomous driving technology and artificial intelligence.

The company has begun offering autonomous taxi services and is planning to produce humanoid robots, after ceasing production of the Model S and Model X to free up capacity at factories. Analysts estimate that the growth in sales in Europe provides a solid basis for Tesla's future strategies, while the fast-charging network on the continent continues to expand. /CNA
