Air India plane crash/ Preliminary report released

A preliminary report into the Air India crash in June has revealed that both fuel control switches were in the cut-off position - a switch that shuts down the engines - moments before the plane crashed in Ahmedabad.

Cockpit audio detailed in the report suggests confusion between the two pilots: in a voice recording, one is heard asking his colleague why he "made the cutoff" - the other pilot replies that he didn't.

The audio only deepens the mystery surrounding the crash, writes the BBC's India correspondent Soutik Biswas - one expert says it is almost impossible to activate both fuel switches at the same time.

An Air India spokesperson says the airline continues to "fully cooperate" with authorities.

At least 260 people were killed in the crash and the only survivor was British citizen Visheshkumar Ramesh who emerged from the wreckage through an opening in the fuselage./ CNA
