Rubio: US and Russia have exchanged new ideas for peace talks with Ukraine

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today that the US and Russia have exchanged new ideas for peace talks over Moscow's ongoing war in Ukraine, regardless of the situation, after meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Malaysia.

"I echoed what US President Donald Trump said, a disappointment and frustration at the lack of progress," Rubio told reporters.

However, Rubio said the two discussed a new and different approach to talks with the Kremlin on how to end the war, which has now entered its fourth year.

"We need to see an action plan moving forward on how this war can end. And then we shared some ideas on what that could look like," Rubio said after the 50-minute meeting.

The two held talks in Kuala Lumpur, within the framework of the annual forum of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which brings together the 10 ASEAN member states and their most important diplomatic partners, including Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, European countries and the US. /CNA
