Suspected of killing 15 patients/ Investigations begin for doctor in Germany

German investigators said Tuesday they were looking into the case of a doctor who is suspected of killing several patients.

The public prosecutor's office and police in the northern German town of Itzehoe said in a statement that they are currently investigating a doctor from the Pinneberg district on initial suspicion of murdering several patients, most of whom were elderly.

They said they were looking into the deaths and that a special commission had already conducted several autopsies and exhumations as part of the investigation. Investigators said the forensic examination and evaluation of the findings was expected to take several weeks.

In one separate case, a Berlin doctor was charged in April with murdering 15 palliative care patients.

The doctor was part of a nursing home's end-of-life care team and investigators say they have found evidence linking him to the deaths of 15 people between September 22, 2021, and July 24 last year. /CNA
