Trump signs natural disaster declaration for Texas flooding

US President Donald Trump announced that he has signed a disaster declaration for the recent deadly flooding in Texas.

"I have just signed a Major Disaster Declaration for Kerr County, Texas, to ensure that our brave First Responders have the resources they need immediately," Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Sunday morning. "These families are experiencing an unimaginable tragedy, with many lives lost and many still missing. The Trump Administration continues to work closely with state and local leaders. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was on the ground yesterday with Governor Greg Abbott, who is working hard to help the people of his Great State," the president added. "Our extraordinary U.S. Coast Guard, along with the State's First Responders, have saved over 850 lives. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!" Trump said.

At least 67 people have died from the flooding, according to the Associated Press. A significant portion of central Texas is facing a Flood Watch, Flash Flood Warning or Flood Watch, according to the National Weather Service.

Fifty-nine people have died in flooding in Kerr County, Texas, the county sheriff said Sunday, according to an update on the county's website. Thirty-eight of the victims were adults and 21 were children./CNA
