Israel launches attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen

Israel has announced that it has launched attacks on three ports and a power plant in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that their targets included the merchant ship Galaxy Leader. The ship, hijacked by the rebel group in 2023, was used to monitor naval vessels in international waters.

Following Israeli attacks on the ports of Hudaydah, Ras Isa and Saif, two rockets were fired from Yemen at Israel, according to the Israeli military.

A spokesman for the Iran-backed Houthi military group said that after the attacks, the group's air defenses confronted the Israeli attack using "a large number of locally produced surface-to-air missiles."

Sirens were activated in several areas of Israel in response to the rockets, with the military saying the results from the intercept remained "under review."

Houthi-run media in Yemen said Israeli airstrikes hit Hudaydah, but no further details on damage or casualties were given.

Katz said the attacks were part of "Operation Black Flag" and warned that the Houthis "will continue to pay a high price for their actions."/ CNA
