Severe storms hit Europe/Air and rail traffic disrupted in Hungary

Severe storms hit Hungary on Monday, forcing the closure of the main international airport in the country's capital Budapest.

The departures hall in Terminal 2A was partially flooded and the building was evacuated, but no injuries were reported, the airport said in a statement.

"All passenger check-ins are being conducted at Terminal 2B. The storm has also affected surrounding roads, please be aware of any traffic changes before departure," airport authorities said, adding that a damage assessment is underway.

According to Flightradar, several flights scheduled to arrive in Budapest were diverted and landed elsewhere.

A flight from Prague was diverted to Bratislava and the airport said several planes were circling the airport waiting for a landing spot. They warned that further flight cancellations could not be ruled out./CNA
