Clashes with drug cartel in Colombia/ 3 killed in airstrikes by armed forces

At least three people have been killed in airstrikes carried out by Colombian armed forces in the northwest of the country against members of the Clan del Golfo, Colombia's largest drug cartel, authorities said today.

The military operation took place in a mountainous and inaccessible area of ??Antioquia and so far, there are three dead and one arrested, official Luis Eduardo Martinez told Blu Radio.

According to authorities, the four people belong to the notorious Clan del Golfo, which emerged from other far-right paramilitary organizations and is said to have more than 7,500 members.

This is the fourth military operation against Clan del Golfo in the Antioquia region since the beginning of the year.

"It is estimated that due to four precision airstrikes, approximately 30-40 members of Clan del Golfo have been eliminated," Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez said in a post on the 'X' platform.

Social Democrat President Gustavo Petro was elected in 2022 promising complete peace and began talks with various organizations, guerrillas, paramilitaries, drug traffickers, in the hope of ending Colombia's nearly six-decade war through negotiations.
