Ranking/ Which European countries offer the highest average annual salary?

For many workers, pay plays an important role in determining their next career move. In addition to clear inequalities between sectors, wages also vary widely across European countries. According to the latest Eurostat data from 2024, here's how wages vary across Europe.

The average annual salary for an employee in the EU is €39,808. Among EU countries, it ranges from €15,387 in Bulgaria to €82,969 in Luxembourg, which is 5.4 times higher.

The average salary is over 50,000 euros in five other countries: Denmark, Ireland, Belgium, Austria and Germany. Meanwhile, in Hungary and Greece, the average annual salary per employee is less than 20,000 euros.

The figures show that salaries are generally higher in Western and Northern Europe, and lower in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. /CNA
