Albanian man's murder in Italy solved/Neighbor arrested, "betrayed" by Amazon packages

After almost six months of investigation, there has been a breakthrough in the murder of Fatos Cenaj, the 58-year-old Albanian man killed with a bullet to the head on June 8. The body of the man, a former prison guard, was found in a village alley in Fontanaviva, in the province of Padua, just a few hundred meters from the apartment where he lived with his family. On Saturday, December 13, the carabinieri arrested the victim's neighbor, a 45-year-old worker, Moreno Violetto, who is now charged with aggravated murder.

Camera footage

The Padua military, together with their colleagues from Cittadella and the Parma RIS, managed to identify the suspected perpetrator by analyzing the footage of that morning, when Cenaj, heading to the stables where he worked, came across only a mountain biker, dressed from head to toe, despite the summer climate. He was wearing a helmet, dark glasses, a strange respirator mask and had both arms covered in "tattoos", which upon closer analysis turned out to be artificial sleeves with fake tattoos.

Amazon purchases

Following the trail of the respirator mask and the tattooed sleeves, the Carabinieri of the Investigation Unit and the RIS discovered that in the previous months these had been purchased on Amazon precisely from Cenaj's neighbor. The 45-year-old had also purchased paint to change the color of his mountain bike and other materials to manufacture firearms and ammunition at home. Some of this material was found during a search carried out in July, when his bicycle was seized: in the shed behind his house, several homemade bullet tips were also found, which the man had shot for testing.

Quarrel with the neighbor

As explained by our colleagues at PadovaOggi, the RIS also found a match between the gunshot residue that had hit the Albanian pensioner and the traces found on the neighbor's bicycle. Cenaj had served in the penitentiary police in Albania, before joining his family who had moved to Italy a few years ago and had bought an apartment in Fontaniva. No stain on his past, except for the difficult neighborly relations with the family opposite, which until then had remained limited to trivial matters. Then came the crime, the investigations and the arrest of the 45-year-old from Padua, now imprisoned in the "Due Palazzi" prison on charges of aggravated murder.
