A fish has caused a power outage in New Jersey.

According to Jersey Central Power and Light Company spokesman Chris Hoenig, the fish fell from a bird's mouth into a device that transported electricity in Sayreville, located southwest of Staten Island, New York, writes CNN .

"Contact with animals is a common cause of power outages, however, fish are not on the offender list," Hoenig told CNN in an email.

The Sayreville Police Department joked about the incident on Facebook, naming the dead fish as Gilligan.

The Sayreville area has a large presence of the birds, which were on New Jersey's endangered species list until less than a decade ago, according to Hoenig./ CNA
