The UN condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, Denise Brown, condemned the Russian missile attack on the center of the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv. 

It is despicable to attack the main square of a major city, Brown said in a statement.

The attack left several dead including a 6-year-old girl" and at least 90 injured. 

"I am extremely disturbed by the news of yet another Russian attack that recently struck the heart of Chernihiv, in northern Ukraine, leaving dozens of civilians dead and injured, including children," Brown said .

"It is despicable to attack the main square of a big city, in the morning, while people are out walking, some going to church to celebrate a religious day for many Ukrainians," she added . Saturday marks a major holiday in the Orthodox calendar, the Feast of the Transfiguration.

"I condemn this repeated pattern of Russian attacks on populated areas of Ukraine, causing death, mass destruction and increasing humanitarian needs," she continued. "
Attacks directed against civilians or civilian objects are strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law. It must stop."/ CNA
