Russia has banned the entry of 54 British citizens, including the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan.

This decision by Moscow came in response to the sanctions that the United Kingdom imposed on Russian citizens and Russian companies, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In March, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of war crimes. The arrest warrant was issued in connection with the deportation of hundreds of children from Ukraine.

Moscow denies these accusations.

The Secretary of State for Defence, Annabel Goldie, as well as a number of journalists from the BBC, the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph, are also on the list for entry into Russia.

Russia warned it would continue to expand the list in retaliation for Western sanctions.

Since Moscow launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine last February, Western countries have imposed a series of sanctions on Russia./ REL
