Floods in the Czech Republic / Situation in the main cities

Due to the deterioration of the weather and intense rainfall, there have been massive floods in several cities of the Czech Republic.

The situation in the city of Prerov is presented as such, where it is expected that the Becva river will have an increase in the water level of 710 cm with a flow of 693 m3/s. The current height of the Beçva river is 569 cm. However, the estimated situation may change. The anti-flood measures are dimensioned in Q50, i.e. a value of 792 cm.

Further on in Litovel, the Moravia River has burst its banks, flooding the city's streets. Buses and trains out of service.

Currently the following roads are flooded: Kysucka, Javoricska, Vitezna and the intersection of Kollarova, Smakalova and Studentu. Dukelska and Palackeho streets are also expected to be flooded.

The city of Bohumin has had its worst night since 1997. The river Odra has flooded almost the entire city. Due to the floods, there were also power outages. The dams saved the city from a greater disaster.

But, not only Bohumin, but other villages and towns could have been affected by a much worse flood if the water had not been held in the dams./ CNA
