Osmani: Resignations of Serbian police officers, the result of threats from

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that as a result of "constant threats and intimidation" from Belgrade, Serbian officials of the Kosovo Police have resigned.

"The resignation of police officers from the Serbian community is a direct result of constant threats and intimidation from Serbia - evidence that its policies continue to mirror the tactics of [former Serbian leader Slobodan] Milosevic. We will continue to offer inclusiveness in all institutions and a safe Kosovo for everyone," Osmani wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Earlier on August 17, international diplomats accredited in Kosovo expressed their concern about the resignation of three Kosovo Serb police officers.

In the reaction of the head of the mission of the European Union for the Rule of Law in Kosovo (EULEX) and the American Embassy, ??however, the reasons that led to the resignation of the three policemen were not mentioned. Last November, Serb members of the police in northern Kosovo had resigned, as part of the collective resignations of Serbian officials in the northern municipalities - Zveçan, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok and North Mitrovica - as a sign of dissatisfaction with a decision by the Kosovo Government to re-registration of cars with illegal Serbian license plates in those of RKS - Republic of Kosovo.

After the resignations, the authorities in Kosovo announced a competition for the admission of new police officers.

In July, Radio Free Europe reported that 74 new police officers from non-majority communities had started work in the Kosovo Police. Of this number, 46 belonged to the Serbian community./ Rel
