In the first half of 2023, three times more right-wing extremist rallies and demonstrations were counted in Germany than in the same period last year.

The number of demonstrations organized by the neo-Nazi scene rose from 35 to 110, according to a report by the German Interior Ministry.

One of the reasons, according to the report, is the debate over the growing number of refugees. Likewise, the end of the corona pandemic, which had prevented the organization of large gatherings for two years, is apparently giving an impetus to the extremist scene.

On the other hand, according to the report, the number of rock concerts with right-wing extremist motives has marked a slight decrease, falling from 89 to 71 in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year. According to the figures of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, 35 such concerts took place between April and June.

The deputy of the Left party, Petra Pau, expressed concern that "one year after the pandemic, the mobilizing power of the extreme right is growing again extremely".

Most of the demonstrations were protests against refugee shelters. Pau said "we all have a duty to prevent extreme hostility towards refugees from reaching levels similar to those of the early 1990s and 2015." The largest number of far-right demonstrations and gatherings was recorded in 2015, with 590 such. After this year, the trend has been decreasing./ DW
