The ship sinks off the African coast/ More than 60 migrants are suspected to

More than 60 people are believed to be dead after a ship was found off the coast of Cape Verde state in West Africa.

In the footage published in the media, it was seen that 39 people, including children, were rescued on the island of Sal.

Almost all the people on board the ship, which is believed to have been at sea for a month, were from Senegal.

Cape Verdean officials have called for global action on migration to prevent further loss of life.

The ship was first identified on Monday, state police told AFP news agency.

Initially there were reports that she was flooded, but later she was seen moving.

Senegal's foreign ministry said on Tuesday that the ship left a village in Senegal on July 10 with 101 people on board.

The survivors may have ended up in Cape Verde, but this country is believed not to have been their destination.

This country is located about 600 kilometers away from the route that migrants take to the Canary Islands, Spanish territory, which for many migrants is the route to the European Union.

According to the International Organization for Migrants (IOM), this is one of the most dangerous journeys that migrants can make.

The exact figures are not known due to irregular migration, but it is believed that in the period 2020-2023, at least 67,000 people have gone to the Canary Islands.

In the same period, over 2,5000 people died./ REL
