The UN counts around 10,000 civilians killed in Ukraine

In a new UN report on the war in Ukraine, 9,444 cases of civilian deaths have been confirmed. 16,940 were injured, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights declared. The figure cannot be exact, it says, because there are many regions where data is missing. This applies especially to cities like Mariupol, Lysytshank, Sjevjerodonjeck, which after long bombardments and fierce fighting have been occupied by Russian troops. In Kiev there is fear that tens of thousands of Ukrainians have really lost their lives.

According to UN data, the vast majority of those who lost their lives, 7,339 people, were killed in those parts of the country that were bombed by Russia and are protected by the Ukrainian army. 2105 civilians lost their lives in the parts occupied by Russia. In the areas where fierce fighting takes place, Donetsk and Luhansk in the east, there have been many more victims from both warring sides, than in the capital Kiev or Western Ukraine.

Russia has currently focused its attacks on western Ukraine. A rocket fell on a factory of the Swedish manufacturer of technical machine materials, SKF in Luzk not far from the Polish border. According to the factory data, three people lost their lives and several others were injured. SKF employs 1,100 employees in Ukraine, most of them in Luzk.

Also, a series of rockets fell in the region of the city of Lviv. "Many missiles were intercepted by the anti-aircraft defense system, and there were also missiles that fell in Lviv", announced the mayor of the city, Andrij Sadoviji on Telegram. A building that caught fire was evacuated. Ukrainian air defense was able to neutralize 16 out of 28 combat drones, according to its data./ DW
