The Ministry of Health of Kosovo (MOH) has called on citizens to be extra careful and constantly check their drinking water, due to an increase in cases of meningitis during the last two months.

In a press release today, the ministry announced that increased control of drinking water and swimming pools is required to prevent various infections.

Based on the report of the Hospital Service of the University Clinic of Kosovo, the number of cases reported for meningeal syndrome during July-August, compared to the same period last year, has increased.

"Meningitis can affect anyone who comes into contact with the agent, but certain age groups are more at risk. According to the World Health Organization, meningitis mostly affects young people because the immune system in young people, mainly babies, children and teenagers, has not developed enough to fight the agents", said the Ministry of Health .

The cause of the syndrome

Symptoms

1. Some of the symptoms of the disease are similar to those of a normal flu, but they worsen for a very short time.

2. Meningitis can appear immediately or 3-7 days after receiving the infection.
Symptoms of the disease include: vomiting, dizziness, high body temperature, muscle pain, sensitivity to light, headache, confusion, cold limbs, skin rash.

3. Children may also have symptoms such as rapid breathing, irritation and crying for a long time, loss of concentration and lack of appetite.
