Israel may sell Arrow 3 to Germany

It is the largest arms deal in Israel's history. The US gave the country the green light to sell the Arrow 3 air defense system to Germany.

Israel, according to its data, has received permission from the US for the sale of the "Arrow 3" air defense system to Germany. This is the largest agreement in Israeli history, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense. The US State Department delivered the decision to Israel on Thursday.

US approval was considered the main obstacle to the historic agreement between Germany and Israel. Negotiations for this took place after the start of the Russian war in Ukraine. The deal was to be signed by the Defense Ministries of both countries, and Israel's aerospace industry said in the announcement.

Payment from the special fund for the German army

The parliamentary budget and defense committees in the Bundestag gave their approval for the deal in June. The cost amounts to about 4 billion euros, according to Israeli data. The financing will be taken from the special German fund for the army, which was approved as a reaction after the start of the war in Ukraine - 100 billion euros. "Arrow 3" was produced as a collaboration with Israel and the USA. It is expected to be ready for use in 2025./ DW
