WHO: Climate-related extreme weather events increased 400% over the last 50 years

World Health Organization calls for collective action to tackle climate crisis

According to the UN's World Health Organization (WHO), the last half century has seen a dramatic increase in extreme climate-related weather events.

"Over the last 50 years, extreme weather events have increased by 400% due to climate change," the WHO reports.

The UN agency also noted the impact of climate change on various health issues, including infectious diseases, respiratory and non-communicable diseases, mental health, and injuries such as drowning.

"Climate change is driving up the burden of diseases of all kinds," he added.
