Elections in Kosovo/ Results will be announced by March 5th

The Central Election Commission in Kosovo has announced that the results of the February 9 elections in Kosovo will be announced by March 5.

On Wednesday, the CEC announced that the counting of votes received from diplomatic missions, where the election process was physically conducted by the diaspora on February 8, 2025, will begin.

CEC spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, announced that more than 15 thousand ballots were involved in this process.

During the press conference at the Counting and Results Center, Elezi said that scanning the voter list of regular polling stations is necessary before the start of the conditional vote count.

"Scanning helps us ensure that no one has voted twice, both at the regular and conditional polling stations. Once this process is completed, the counting of conditional votes, votes from people with special needs and those from voting outside Kosovo can begin," Elezi declared.

Elezi said that work is being done to announce the final results as soon as possible, even before the planned deadline.

"In past elections, the CEC took about 18 days from election day to announce the final results. For this electoral process, the announcement is planned to be made no later than March 5, 2025, while certification is scheduled for March 18," said Elezi.

Regarding voting from outside Kosovo, Elezi announced that out of about 69 thousand packages of ballots received, about 63 thousand were approved, while about 4,900 were rejected.

According to CEC data, out of 104,924 citizens registered to vote from abroad, 84,600 had chosen to vote by mail and 20,324 at diplomatic missions.

15,352 citizens voted at diplomatic missions, while around 69,000 packages with ballots were received by mail. /CNA
