A large number of leaders from Europe and Canada were in the Ukrainian capital today, February 24, to mark the third anniversary of the Russian invasion of the country.
Leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, attended anniversary events and discussed support for Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Arriving by train, Von der Leyen said that Ukraine was fighting "for survival" and that the "fate" of Europe was at stake in Ukraine. "We are in Kiev today because Ukraine is Europe. In this fight for survival, it is not just the fate of Ukraine that is at stake. It is the fate of Europe," she said.
World leaders, showing support for Ukraine, were greeted at the train station by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and the president's chief of staff Andrii Yermak. In a post on X, von der Leyen wrote that Europe was in Kiev "because Ukraine is in Europe ."/CNA
