The Vatican Press Office has issued a statement on the health of Pope Francis. The statement said that the Holy Father suffered a respiratory crisis this morning. It also said that Pope Francis needed a blood transfusion after tests showed he had thrombocytopenia, accompanied by anemia. The Vatican says that the Holy Father is still in a state of danger.

The Holy See Press Office released the following medical update for Pope Francis on Saturday evening:

The condition of the Holy Father remains critical. Therefore, as explained yesterday, the Pope is not out of danger for his life. This morning, Pope Francis experienced a respiratory crisis similar to asthma of prolonged intensity, which required the administration of high-flow oxygen.

Today's blood tests also revealed thrombocytopenia, accompanied by anemia, which required a blood transfusion.

"The Holy Father remains alert and spent the day in an armchair, although he is more uncomfortable than yesterday. For the moment, the prognosis remains guarded ," the statement said.

We recall that Pope Francis has been hospitalized at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome for several days due to pneumonia./ CNA
