Trump-Macron meeting/ What was discussed about Ukraine

President Donald Trump met with French President Macron yesterday, with whom he said they see eye to eye on the war in Ukraine.

As the war in Ukraine marks its 3rd anniversary, President Trump says the US and Europe have the same goals in dealing with Russia and ending the war.

President Trump's first meeting with a European ally was with French President Emmanuel Macron, followed by the British Prime Minister, with both leaders saying they both want peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.

"I believe Emmanuel agrees with me on many of the most important issues, chief among them being that this is the right time and may be the only time," Trump said.

French President Emmanuel Macron struck an optimistic tone.

"Today's discussion showed us the issues of capability and first of all, we have worked hard with President Zelensky to have a proposal that is acceptable to Ukraine," Macron said.

Despite the optimism expressed by President Trump about a peace agreement being reached soon, a different perspective was expressed on Monday by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin made it clear that he said he had not yet "substantially" discussed a resolution to the conflict./CNA
