G7 ministers meet in Italy to discuss conflicts

Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven most industrialized countries (G7) hold two-day meetings near Rome, together with their counterparts from the Middle East. They will then discuss Russia's war in Ukraine.

The G7 ministers will also discuss the International Criminal Court's decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the military chief of Hamas - the Palestinian group declared a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - and "the effects of the current crisis in Lebanon and Gaza," said the Italian Foreign Ministry.

The American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, will participate in the meetings with the other Foreign Ministers from the other G7 countries: Britain, Canada, Germany, France and Japan.

The host of the meetings is the Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani.

The first session starts on Monday afternoon and will be devoted to the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea, especially the efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.

Ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the secretary general of the Arab League will also participate in one of the sessions, the Italian Foreign Ministry said.

"We have requested that the partners from the region be present to encourage dialogue with the G7 members," Tajani said in a statement.

"Only together can we find concrete solutions and bring peace and stability to the region", he added.

On the second day of meetings, the ministers will discuss ways to continue support for Kiev, opportunities for peace and future reconstruction initiatives, Rome said.

On the same day, in Brussels, ambassadors from NATO countries and Ukraine will discuss the launch of a new hypersonic missile of Russia, which has a medium range. Tensions in the Asia-Pacific are also on the agenda of the meetings of the G7 ministers, and the foreign ministers of South Korea, India, Indonesia and the Philippines have also been invited to the meetings.

Likewise, the G7 chief diplomats are expected to discuss the crises in Haiti and Sudan, as well as the political situation in Venezuela.
