Hezbollah attacks Israel with 250 rockets and shells

The militant group Hezbollah fired about 250 rockets and other projectiles at Israel on Sunday, wounding seven people.

This was the heaviest shelling attack for months. The strikes were carried out in response to deadly Israeli attacks in Beirut as negotiators continue efforts to reach a ceasefire.

Some of the rockets reached the Tel Aviv area in the heart of Israel.

Meanwhile, an Israeli attack on a military center in the southwest, between the cities of Tiros and Naqoura, killed one Lebanese soldier and wounded 18 others, the Lebanese army announced.

The Israeli military expressed regret, stating that the attack took place in a combat zone against Hezbollah and that the military's operations targeted only the militants.

Israeli strikes have killed over 40 Lebanese troops since the start of the war between Israel and Hezbollah.

Lebanon's interim prime minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the latest attacks as a blow to US-led efforts to end the war.

Hezbollah began hitting Israel with rockets and drones after the start of the war in Gaza. Hezbollah says the attacks are an act of solidarity with the Palestinians and Hamas. Iran supports both armed groups./VOA
