Israel orders evacuations in some areas of Gaza, prompts new wave of

The Israeli army has ordered the evacuation of residents on the outskirts of Gaza City, triggering a new wave of displacement on Sunday, Palestinian authorities said. Officials added that the director of Gaza's hospital was wounded in an Israeli drone attack.

A spokesman for the Israeli army shared on the X network the evacuation route, while blaming the Palestinian militants for this decision, which according to the army have carried out rocket attacks from the area in question, north of the Gaza Strip.

"For your safety, you must evacuate immediately to the south,"  the Israeli army's post said. A series of rocket attacks on Saturday were claimed by Hamas' armed wing, which said it had targeted an Israeli army base.

Footage broadcast on Palestinian media, which Reuters could not independently confirm, showed residents leaving the Shejaia area, including children, walking with bags on their backs.

Families living in these areas began to leave their homes after nightfall on Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday, residents and Palestinian media said. This is the latest wave of displacement, among many since the war began 13 months ago.

Health officials said at least 10 Palestinians were killed by Israeli strikes in the two camps of Al-Maghazi and Al-Bureij during Saturday's attacks.

Gazans are also dealing with torrential rains that have flooded hundreds of tents across the region, damaging their food and the few clothes they had been able to take with them.

Palestinian civil emergency authorities said thousands of displaced people had been affected by seasonal flooding and called for new tents and other relief for residents.

The European Union's then foreign policy chief, Josep Borrel, called on Sunday during a visit to Beirut for more pressure on the Israeli government and the Hezbollah group to accept the cease-fire proposal offered by the United States.

An Israeli attack in the Baalbek region of Lebanon killed 17 people, including a mother and her 4 children, according to data from Lebanon's Ministry of Health.

These data cannot be independently confirmed. /VOA
