Dozens killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon

Palestinian health authorities announced on Saturday that Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have killed at least 120 people over the past 48 hours. The attacks, according to them, also hit a hospital in the northernmost edge of the region, injuring medical personnel and damaging hospital equipment. Notifications cannot be independently verified.

Among the dead were seven members of the same family whose house was hit overnight in the Gaza City suburb of Zeitun, health officials said.

The others, according to authorities, were killed in various attacks in central and southern Gaza.

At the same time, Israeli ground troops pushed deeper as airstrikes continued on the northernmost edge of the region, the main offensive since early last month.

The Israeli military says it aims to prevent Hamas fighters from launching attacks and regrouping in the area. Local residents say they fear that the aim of the attacks is the permanent depopulation of part of the territory.

Meanwhile, Lebanese health authorities announced that Israeli airstrikes killed at least 11 people and wounded dozens more in central Beirut, as diplomats continue efforts to broker a ceasefire.

Lebanon's Health Ministry said Saturday that the death toll could rise as rescue teams continue to search under the rubble for survivors. DNA is conducting tests to identify the victims. The ministry said 63 people were wounded in the fourth wave of airstrikes in Lebanon's capital in less than a week. Announcements cannot be independently verified./VOA
