NATO chief meets with Trump in Florida
The head of NATO, Mark Rutte

NATO chief Mark Rutte held talks with US President-elect Donald Trump in Florida on "global security issues facing the alliance", a spokeswoman for the organization said on Saturday.

The meeting took place on Friday in Palm Beach, this official said in a statement.

Throughout his first term as president, Trump has pushed Europe to increase defense spending.

Rutte, the former prime minister of the Netherlands, has said he wants to meet Trump soon after he wins the Nov. 5 presidential election to discuss the growing threat of deepening relations between North Korea and Russia.

"What we see more and more is that North Korea, Iran and China, as well as Russia, of course, are working together against Ukraine," Rutte recently said at a meeting of European leaders in Budapest.

"At the same time, Russia has to pay for this, and one of the ways is through sending technology to North Korea," Rutte said, expressing concern that such a practice is threatening "the American soil and the European continent."

Rutte is considered one of the leaders who had very good relations during Trump's first term as president, in the period 2017-21./ REL
