Reports: Trump may nominate Richard Grenell as his Ukraine war envoy

US President-elect Donald Trump is considering Richard Grenell, his former intelligence chief, as a special envoy for the Russia-initiated conflict in Ukraine, according to sources close to him. news, Reuters.

Grenell, who served as the US ambassador to Germany, then as the special envoy of the United States for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and as chief of national intelligence in Trump's first term as president, in the period 2017-2021 , would play a major role in Trump's efforts to stop the war started by Russia in Ukraine.

Although there is currently no position in the US administration dedicated to ending this war, Trump is considering creating a new position, four sources close to these developments said.

Grenell has previously called for the creation of "autonomous zones" as a way to end the conflict.

He also suggested that he would not be in favor of Ukraine joining NATO in the near future.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump's spokesperson in this transition period, has not confirmed this appointment, and has said that the president-elect himself will make his decisions public.
