Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Barcelona on Saturday night to demand affordable housing.

The police said that about 22,000 people participated in the protests, while the organizers said that there were 170,000 participants.

The protesters demanded that the rent prices be halved, the daily El Pais reported.

"It is unacceptable for us to spend half of our salary on rent, and to move every time our contract expires," said Carme Arcarazo, representative of the protesters.
