The entire neighborhood in the Philippines catches fire/ About 1,000 homes burn,

A massive fire swept through a coastal slum in the Philippine capital on Sunday, leaving at least 2,000 families homeless as flames swept through the area for nearly eight hours.

Drone footage from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office showed flames engulfing densely packed stilt houses in Isla Puting Bato, a slum in Tondo, Manila.

The Manila Fire Department reported that about 1,000 houses were destroyed and approximately 8,000 people were displaced by the fire, which broke out at 8:00 a.m. Sunday and was extinguished by 4:00 p.m.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but fires in Manila's slums are often caused by faulty wiring or gas canisters.

Isla Puting Bato is located in the Tondo district, which is Manila's largest slum, home to about 654,220 people. Many of them live in dilapidated shacks along busy roads near a busy trading port.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, foreign media reported.
