The heads of the two main US and British intelligence agencies, the CIA and MI6, said in an article published on Saturday that "staying the course" in supporting Ukraine's war against Russia is more important than ever, as they vowed to continue further their cooperation on this and other challenges.
The editorial published in the newspaper "Financial Times" by the director of the CIA, William Burns, and Richard Moore, head of the British intelligence agency MI6, marks the first case of a joint article by the heads of these agencies.
"Partnership lies at the heart of the special relationship between our countries", they wrote, emphasizing that two years ago their agencies celebrated 75 years of partnership.
The agencies " stand together to resist the aggression of Russia and Putin against Ukraine", they say in the article.
“Staying the course [in Ukraine] is more vital than ever. Putin will not succeed in extinguishing the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine", they further state, adding that their agencies will continue to help Ukrainian intelligence.
Russian forces have been slowly advancing in eastern Ukraine, while Ukrainian troops have captured a large part of Russia's Kursk region. Kiev has called for more US and Western military aid.
US and British intelligence chiefs said their agencies would continue to work to thwart a "sabotage campaign by Russian espionage across Europe" and the use of technology "to spread disinformation and create disruption".
Russia has denied accusations of sabotage and disinformation campaigns in the United States and other Western countries.
Directors Burns and Moore noted that they had reorganized their agencies to accommodate the rise of China, which they said is the geopolitical challenge of the 21st century./ VOA
