The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, received in a meeting the ambassador of Russia in Belgrade, Aleksandar Bocan Harchenko, whom he informed about the "difficult situation" of the Serbs in Kosovo.
Vucic wrote on Instagram after the meeting on September 6 that "I also told him how difficult the position of the Serbian people [in Kosovo] is," adding that "it seems to me that we have found understanding on the part of the Russian side about this."
Bocan Harchenko has said that Russia is "aware of the difficult situation in Kosovo", according to the Beta news agency.
"Kosovo will be one of the most priority issues during the so-called ministerial session at the session of the United Nations General Assembly. In October, a session of the Security Council is expected and it will also provide an opportunity for Russia to present its principled position, based on Resolution 1244, for the protection of Serbs living in Kosovo", said Bocan Harchenko.
Russia is among Serbia's biggest allies, and Belgrade enjoys its strong support in opposing Kosovo's independence.
Vu?i?'s meeting with the Russian ambassador in Belgrade was held on the day when Serbian associations blocked transit points on the Serbian part of the border with Kosovo, in protest against the closure of parallel Serbian institutions in Kosovo.
Meanwhile, Vucic and Bocan Harchenko also talked about the invitation that the Serbian president received from the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, to participate in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit, which is held from the 22nd to on October 24 in the Russian city of Kazan.
Vucic has said that he will make a decision on the invitation to the BRICS meeting on October 10 or 15.
Serbia is among the few countries in Europe that does not want to join international sanctions against the Kremlin after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
After the meeting with Vucic in Loznica in western Serbia, Bocan Harchenko told reporters that Moscow "highly values ??the principled and steadfast stance of the president of Serbia on cooperation with Russia, as well as regarding the sanctions" that the European Union is asking Serbia to set them against her.
"Of course, the sanctions have not been accepted and will not be accepted by Serbia, which gives us the opportunity to move forward step by step, in difficult conditions so far, in the development of our relations", said Bocan Harchenko./ REL
