Ivica Dacic, official visit to China

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, left for an official visit to China on Saturday.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced that he will attend the Global Forum on Cooperation and Public Security in Lianyungang, where he will hold talks with China's Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong.

He is also expected to visit the Serbian police officers who are working with their Chinese colleagues in joint patrols.

In the last three years, policemen from China and their colleagues from Serbia have patrolled Belgrade, Novi Sad and Smederevo, the cities most visited by Chinese tourists in Serbia.

Dacic will also participate in the training of special police units in Guangzhou, according to the Serbian MIA.

Serbia has strengthened relations with China since the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of President Aleksandar Vucic came to power in 2012.

The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, visited Belgrade in May, for the second time in the last ten years.

China and Serbia, which has been a candidate for European Union membership for more than a decade, signed a declaration on strategic partnership between the two countries in 2016.

Seven years later, Beijing and Belgrade signed a free trade agreement.

In recent years, China has made numerous investments in Serbia, the largest of which are in the iron and steel plant in Smederevo and the Linglong tire plant in Zrenjan.

In Serbia, China built the Belgrade Pupin bridge across the Danube River./ REL
