Dozens killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza

Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip killed more than a dozen people between Friday and Saturday night, local and health authorities said.

The Israeli army carried out these attacks at a time when medical teams are carrying out an emergency campaign to vaccinate children against polio in the Palestinian territory.

Vaccination began after health officials confirmed the first case of polio in Gaza in 25 years, a 10-month-old baby whose leg was paralyzed.

The nine-day campaign, led by the United Nations health agency and its partners, began last Sunday in central Gaza and aims to vaccinate 640,000 children under the age of 10.

Meanwhile, Israel continued its military offensive, which has destroyed Gaza's health system and most of its infrastructure.

Al-Ada Hospital said it has received the bodies of nine people killed in two separate airstrikes on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. One attack hit a residential building on Saturday morning, killing four people and injuring 10 others, the hospital said, while the other hit a house, killing five people.

Meanwhile, the main hospital in central Gaza, Al-Aqsa, said a woman and her two children were killed in another airstrike on a house near the Bureij refugee camp on Saturday morning.

In northern Gaza, an airstrike hit a school converted into a shelter for displaced people, killing at least four people and wounding several dozen others, according to the Gaza Civil Defense, which operates under the orders of the Hamas-led government - the group declared a terrorist by the United States and the European Union.

Israel launched the war in Gaza in retaliation for Hamas attacks on Israeli soil on October 7, in which the militants killed 1,200 people and took 240 hostages.

As a result of Israel's ground and air military campaign, more than 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza, according to Palestinian health authorities./REL
