Mike Johnson: The Republican Party will win both houses of Congress and the

House Speaker Mike Johnson told fellow Republicans on Friday that he is "100 percent" confident the GOP will win both houses of Congress and the White House, despite the close vote, dividing privately the latest predictions of the party two months before election day.

Johnson spoke at a House briefing during which former President Donald Trump's campaign aides also briefed members on the state of the race.

The Louisiana Republican set a path to 218 seats and a majority in the House of Representatives, telling members that the party considers 211 seats safe in their column, with Democrats projected to win 205. That leaves 19 seats and a majority up for grabs.

Republicans could "have a 13-seat majority on a good night," Johnson said.

He based this prediction on his "on-the-ground" experience, noting that he has traveled to 198 cities in 38 states. Johnson added that the rise of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee changes little about the electoral landscape.

Johnson in particular pointed to increased Congressional Leadership Fund funding this year and a general election where Democrats are ahead by 1 point. He argued that this is a scenario in which they win based on how House districts are drawn.

Senior Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita and Trump campaign pollster Tony Fabrizio then took members on their perspective on the state of the presidential race, with both claiming the media has unfairly covered the Democratic nominee.

LaCivita noted that the upcoming presidential debate on Tuesday will be the first time Harris is actively tested. And LaCivita indicated he's not counting on Harris to face off the way President Joe Biden did in June, though he still expects Trump to come out of the debate stronger.

Fabrizio, the Trump campaign pollster, cited Nate Silver's forecasting model and RealClearPolitics' polling averages as he went through their odds of beating Harris, some of which were taken by the politician. / Translated by Politiko.
