Great Britain: Russia risks dividing its forces

By simultaneously repelling a Ukrainian counter-offensive in the south of the country and attacking itself in the east, Russian forces risk splitting their forces, the UK Ministry of Defense said in its intelligence update on Saturday.

Russia is continuing its advances near Kupiansk in eastern Ukraine and wants to force Ukrainian forces to split their units between the south and east, the update said.

"Given that Russia has made modest gains near Kupiansk since the start of the Ukrainian counter-offensive in June, it is very likely that they will seek to take advantage" by continuing to resource this area of ??the front, the ministry said.

However, this could force Russia itself to split its troops in order to prevent an advance from Ukraine around Orikhiv in the south, according to the update. / CNA
