Day 14 of the fire in Evros, Greece/ Another nightmare night for residents

Another nightmare night from the fires in Evros, as the flames in the forest of Dadia have taken different directions.

This is the 14th day that this area is occupied by fire.

The flames have spread from Giannouli to Sidiro, but also to the side of the village of Protokklisi. The strongest front is located in the north towards Protoklis and in the east towards Soufli. Around the villages as well as Sufli, fire protection zones are constantly being created by residents and volunteers, with machinery from the municipality of Sufli and the Region.

Through a message on Facebook, the Municipality of Sufli has called on citizens to rationally use water in support of the effort to extinguish the fire.

According to the Fire Department, 582 firefighters with 129 vehicles and 16 infantry units are operating - mainly between the areas of Soufli, Kornofolia, Dadia, Kotronia, Sidiro and Giannouli, while 10 firefighting planes and seven helicopters operated from the air in rotation during the day.

Meanwhile, 68 fires are being extinguished throughout the territory, while in the last twenty-four hours, 32 new forest fires were registered, most of which were extinguished immediately, in the initial phase, as the firemen announce.

The Greek media write that help in dealing with the fires is provided by the European Civil Protection Mechanism with forces from France, Spain, Cyprus, Romania, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Albania and Serbia./ CNA
