Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev said on Friday that Moscow will not allow foreign banks to leave Russia easily.

"Our position is clear and does not change - we will be tough on foreign banks that want to leave, which will depend on the decision to freeze Russian assets," said Mr. Moiseev during a meeting, VOA reports.

In response to questions about applications for the sale of assets, Mr. Moiseev said that Austria's Raiffeisen Bank RBIV.VI had not made such a request. "I am aware of the application of a foreign bank to sell the assets ... which is under review by the government commission," he said.

Last year, Western countries imposed sanctions on Russia over its aggression in Ukraine, freezing more than $300 billion in Russian central bank assets held abroad.
